Arla's Aimless Anecdotes

This is my attempt to write one occasional email to various people at one time. I specifically write with my cousin Judy in mind. Since we grew up together we agreed in our teens that we'd always try to keep in contact. This is a supplement to our twice yearly phone calls and our once yearly visit at our Johanson Family Memorial Day Reunion.

Gardening or Not

Thank you for honoring my mom with a plaque with her name on it at Manito Park Conservatory. She would be pleased to see it there. She walked around Manito Park with me many times. See as we get into our 70’s we know what to do to memorialize our elders. Actually you knew it long before now.

So far it has been raining like crazy here so I am not anxious to be pulling weeds in my yard wait- now it is even snowing here.

Being 70 is looking like more fun now that I can talk to everyone about the olden days when we were kids. At school I ran into this old, old, teacher who was telling tales of classrooms when she began teaching in Florida and then I topped her with the story of my telegram offering $5280 annually as a teacher in Anchorage in 1963. It was much higher than the Washington teachers’ salaries. I also find myself talking to everyone I run into but maybe I always did that at least during these past ten years or so. Before that I always let you do the talking for both of us when we were in school.

I’m so sorry that your friend, Hank was in an automobile accident. I hope he can recover quickly.
I know you will be right in there giving him instructions for getting back on his feet again.

Tomorrow is supposed to be Willie and Brooke’s wedding. I guess we will read about it on FB since we didn’t get on the invitation list. I hope we can send gifts so we’ll know whether or not they are prone to giving thank-you cards. You and I like to talk about who meets our criteria for a following gift.

The twins are getting so smart these days. They are following Earth Day guidelines for cleaning up, they can tie their shoes, and they are writing their alphabet. I mentioned to Miles that he needed to learn to tie and he answered that he never has tie shoes and he never will get any shoes that tie. I then tried to dream up some reasons for tying but he almost had me stumped. You can never wrap a package or tie a boat to the dock?

What are some good reasons for learning to tie? It’s a lost art like learning to tell time now that so many digital clocks abound.

Do we know someone who is happy tax season has ended?

No gardening here either...cold and rainy. Altho we did fertilise
the roses about 10 days ago when it was a almost decent day.
I love Miles attitude...I can't think of any reason to learn to tie. Kids are way too smart.
Hank is still in ICU...it will be a long haul for him to get better. Lucky he has the Messers in Toledo and his two sons here to care for him.
