Arla's Aimless Anecdotes

This is my attempt to write one occasional email to various people at one time. I specifically write with my cousin Judy in mind. Since we grew up together we agreed in our teens that we'd always try to keep in contact. This is a supplement to our twice yearly phone calls and our once yearly visit at our Johanson Family Memorial Day Reunion.

A Little Bit of Africa

That is if you count a visit from a native Tanzanian as Julius and Sara were here with Esther, their one year old daughter named after Grandma Esther Olson of course.

Julius is very kind and thoughtful. He offered to help around the house and said he wanted to visit my mom which no one offers to do. He also was astonished that the children here were given food to eat which they then rejected. It sounds like this-
Miles, here’s your hamburger.
I don’t want a hamburger.
How about a hotdog?
No, I want honey-nut Cheerios.
In other words, African children are pleased to get any food at all.

The Olson family had a reunion in Montana so another family group also stopped by on their way through the State. It was nice having an overnight visit with them though Linda flew both ways so I missed her.

The yard is still being dug up. Now it is for larger flower beds and a sprinkler system repair. It has been so hot here that everything is turning brown. I love the hot weather however and the pool is very warm and in use almost daily. I’m glad when friends come by to visit and swim.

Brett turned 43 on Sunday and there was a tiny party. My gift was keeping the boys overnight and the evening went well. I think I had lots of bribes for them. I mean I used Positive Reinforcement and the parents rescued me early in the a.m.

So you can see it is quiet around here. I’m heading to Seattle Thursday so I may have more to write about then. Tell me about the concerts and picnics in Chicago.

I thought there was going to be no flowers...just cactus and rocks. Use native plants only and you won't have to do anything with them. Grasses are nice...they take up lost of space and are foolproof.
Yes we finally have summer here also so that we are not freezing as we attend our Concerts. It has been a good season. Lots of good food, music and friends.
Everytime I throw out any food, I always feel guilty that I could feed an entire village in Africa on what I pitch in a week. We are so wasteful and our kids are so spoiled! Not that I am talking about your grandchildren, of course.
