Arla's Aimless Anecdotes

This is my attempt to write one occasional email to various people at one time. I specifically write with my cousin Judy in mind. Since we grew up together we agreed in our teens that we'd always try to keep in contact. This is a supplement to our twice yearly phone calls and our once yearly visit at our Johanson Family Memorial Day Reunion.

Summer Fun

The photos of your visit to Chicago are good. Since you don't do FB I'll put this photo here. The three Johanson women look very cosmopolitan. No one has mentioned if Jessica was sooo impressed. Anyway I’m sure you had a good visit and you were happy to show them Chicago.

Your trip to the Galapagos sounds wonderful but the holiday time won’t work for me. Too many fun Santa things at that time of the year and the boys need to be entertained.
Really Grandma is entertained most of all at the holiday season.

Summer is great now that the weather is very hot. Barb and Ryan stayed here one night and it was very cool for several days in a row. Here is Barb demonstrating all her trampoline tricks for Ryan.Rachel attended a basketball camp at Gonzaga University and we got to watch the final day. We all had a great time seeing how the girls did at sports camp.

My mom just celebrated her 92nd birthday with cupcakes, horns for the boys, and cards. Here she is with flowers from her little brother. Erna Kisler never forgets to send her a card, Diana, Betty, Claire, also remembered but my mom was not happy to receive the cards. She said it meant she was getting too old.

Cyd and family returned this past weekend to attend the Wiggles concert in town. Three little boys went along with four adults. Lucas, of course, was too old for such a thing. We had a lovely time until the ride home in the car when sweet Peyton decided to scream for the entire 20 minutes. It was something about wanting a cookie at the concert though no one could be certain of his problem. We all tried to follow Anna Marie’s advice to ignore him but it was very difficult.

This afternoon I’m waiting for the arrival of Linda’s siblings en route on their trip from a Montana family reunion. It is very warm so I’m sure they will enjoy being out of the car for a night. Sara and her husband will also be stopping by later in the week. I hope the pool stays together for a few more years so the company will keep coming.

Here is a photo of Shizuo’s girlfriend, Oksana. She’s pretty cute I’d say. We’ll have to wait to see when he takes her home to meet the family.

I almost forgot this nice photo of Hanna Schott with her grandchild. She looks so good.

Twin Time

This was started on Sunday when the twins were sleeping and so was their mom. We have had a busy week in hot weather. It takes the twins a few days to get adjusted to the different sleeping arrangements and the different boss for their day. Basically Peyton just tells me no, he likes his mom but not me. Walker tries to get on my side but only to be in charge of what I can and can’t do.

Here is darling Peyton getting his photo taken being cute which is then followed by a photo taken before this photo of Walker attempting to block my photographing his brother. Competing with a twin must be very trying but they keep at it though at times they band together to get the best of any adult trying to manage them.

Both take turns being frightened of different things. We went to a water park and both were scared to death of a huge bucket of water being periodically dumped on the top of them. They stayed far away from the menacing pail. At the Carousel Walker refused to ride even with his mom standing nearby. Peyton stayed away from the pool for 4 days and then consented to enter after a Batman toy bribe from his mom. He actually had fun eventually. Generally Walker is outgoing and likes to manipulate and organize items. Peyton wants new items including clothing and then plays with these things for a long time. Walker is the A twin and Peyton (B) often seeks permission from Walker before he does something. They are truly darling individuals and it is so interesting to see how different twins can be.

Miles and Lucas are put into the mix daily and then it is good to have at least four adults around to keep an eye on things. Lucas is a good swimmer, working on his dives, and Miles just started swimming with no life jacket, mainly due to the twins wearing life jackets I’m sure. It is all very easy when you can eat all your meals outside and play all day outside too. We have mainly stayed home and hung out. John and Katie hosted a huge 4th Block party but we didn’t have the stamina to get in the car for the ride to their home.

Now it is Monday and things are quiet around my house as everyone has gone. I’ve walked with the neighbors and since then spent 90 minutes on a phone call with Shizuo. His camera wasn’t working so I only had a blank screen and he had a wrinkled face on his computer. He’s posted new photos on his flickr site. Get ready for Jill and Jessica.
