Arla's Aimless Anecdotes

This is my attempt to write one occasional email to various people at one time. I specifically write with my cousin Judy in mind. Since we grew up together we agreed in our teens that we'd always try to keep in contact. This is a supplement to our twice yearly phone calls and our once yearly visit at our Johanson Family Memorial Day Reunion.

Sunday

Today is a quiet Sunday with no food preparation in my kitchen as we are actually going out to eat for a change. It will be a quick bite as the two boys are not ones to linger over dinner no matter how entertaining the restaurant may be. Last night Claire and I crowded into the arena to watch our Gonzaga Bulldogs get beaten down by Memphis. It was a great time just watching the peppy student body jumping in unison while wearing basketball hoop netting for hats.

Lucas and I had a quiet, routine week which is what he likes I guess as at his family meeting he pronounced “Everyone should calm their nerves” as his goal for a tranquil family. The rule session was actually to set down some limits for computer time but his idea was valid also. We have a rigid schedule now and that helps move the morning along while still making certain he brushes his teeth, gets his homework and remembers his gloves.

Miles was at his best this week trying to top his feat of throwing his glasses out of a moving vehicle by throwing a walkie talkie at the LCD panel television screen. He told me later that he didn’t like the bad guy on the super heroes video. Really the devil must have made him do it because he is actually very thoughtful and sweet. Here you can see him presenting Alberta with Valentine flowers that he suggested we bring her. We were walking around Home Depot after the kid’s Valentine box building project when he spotted the flowers. Maybe this week their family will buy a replacement television with a protective shield.

My mom was pleased to see Miles and to see the flowers. She is not walking so well now and let me push her in a wheel chair to a recent doctor’s appointment. This means she is also not attending church as it was so difficult to get her in and out of the van. She seems content to be in the living room at her residence.

I spent a few hours talking to your sister and to Jill the past few days. I also talked to Diana a few times too as I cannot manage my iphone properly and it dials people without my knowledge. It reminds me of drunk dialing only this is dumb dialing. I need to work on this skill as several times I continue being connected to the last caller when I am unaware and they can hear all kinds of stories from me. I may soon be losing friends and relatives if this keeps up.

It is nice that Jeff’s divorce is finally complete after three years and especially nice that he got custody of Catherine since very few dads are given that privilege. Jill has her reservations to Madison and is reporting 16 attendants for the wedding couple. Diana has finished her last day of work and is now officially retired. She’ll need some ideas for volunteering but actually I know she will keep very busy. And wasn’t the note from Shizuo nice, except for that fact that he had very few personal references. I guess he knows he doesn’t want anyone to jump to any wild conclusions but of course, I want to anyway. So when do you think he’ll be having a wedding?

That is tough news about the TV. I guess it is good reason for us to keep the 10 year old TV J bought when he came to the states. There is no way a kid could break that one unless they threw a bowling ball at it. Not that we were thinking of upgrading anyway.
I am impressed that you have an iPhone. It seems everyone is getting one these days. Julius and I are behind on technology so I doubt we will ever get one. Plus, do I need access to facebook 24 hours a day? I don't think so. We even canceled texting because we never text each other (we have a family plan) and were getting text spam.
I posted a new video of Esther on www.juliusandsara.com I have been wanting to use "That's how I roll" since I heard that Obama uses it. Now I got my chance
