News from Chicago?
So far nothing about your trip though I see Hank came back from his political hiatus to take up the attempt to sway those of us hoping the red states win. Hank was right about my not reading article from the liberal leaning NY Times just as I’m positive he would not choose to be informed by Fox News. My political information seems to come mostly from youtube videos.
There was good news around here this week as my mom’s top dentures showed up in the dryer vent in her living group. It was clean anyway so she is wearing her uppers with no seeming after effect. Last Wednesday Miles spent an hour joining the ladies during their guitar sing along session. He is still asking me to sing, Show Me the Way to Go Home. My mom loved seeing him and commenting on the fact he has glasses.
Diana is anxious for replies, suggestions, ideas, comments of any kind so she can calm down about Memorial Day 2009. We are hoping perhaps one group will decide to change their mind and not secure their reservation with a deposit so we can still get an environmental learning center. Meanwhile Anna Marie is hoping we go for tents at Lewis and Clark so she can plan a weekend at an east coast conference or maybe join Mary Jane’s book reading group. The boys will love the tents and Diana says she and Jim are tarp experts so they will share their skills for keeping us dry.
Tomorrow is Hanna Schott's 67th Birthday. She's so much younger than the rest of us.

I heard an ugly rumor that the Democrats had screwed up Congress. Now I read that Hank's views were eagerly anticipated.
Let's start with the following article about how payoffs to Republican Congressmen and administration thieves gave the Defense Department a missle program that even DOD did not want:
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/10/12/washington/12missile.html?_r=1&th&emc=th&oref=slogin
I was unaware that anything had changed in the committee structure or rules in the Congress. I thought that most legislation could not get through Congress because the Republicans were invoking filibuster rules in the Senate.
Ive been in Africa for three weeks and maybe there's something I missed. Last I heard several Republican Congressman were in, or going to jail along with Abramoff.
Instead of silly Fox news claptrap, why not tell us in what ways the Democrats screwed up Congress. Please include the comment on the inconvenient new ethics rules and annoying investigations into waste in Iraq.
Let's try some facts--but then, that is not the Republican way.
So, "my fellow prisoners" let me know how Congress got screwed up in less than two years and caused the financial meltdown.
PS. How is Sarah Pallin going to fix Congress? Would that be a Blackhawk helicopter shooting down Congressmen??
PPS. Im guessing that the above article will not be read--there are invonvenient truths there.
Hi Arla,
Mom likes to sing "Show Me the Way to Go Home" to Esther too. I think it must have been a drinking song of Gpa and Palmer's. Gpa sung it to me when I was little.
I am getting more confident about Obama. Dad is still nervous because he is a bit of a pessimist. He said if McCain wins he will have to stay under the covers for two days, sucking his thumb. Esther and I watched the debates at the Burns' house. You can imagine which way that crowd was leaning.

Funny, I had an email exchange with Hank some time ago. I referred to him and his pals as "Democrats". He then had a hissy fit about how he hates how we conservatives can't even get it right...its DemocratICS!!
Another thing I've noticed about Hank, no matter what, he points his finger at someone else. I remember before the elections two years ago, listening to Air America, all they could talk about was how wonderful things would be if only the Democratics could take over both houses. They knew darn well that they wouldn't get enough to be filibuster proof, yet they were still so very confident that they were going to change the country for the better.
Now, two years later, look at the mess we're in. But it's certainly not the Democratics fault. Oh no. They point the finger at President Bush and the Republicans.
The fact of the matter is, both parties have screwed us over. Both have had ample opportunity to fix things but they don't. They have no interest in it. They want more taxes, bigger government, and more control over we the people. And they get it. Year after year, administration after administration.
Want to redistribute the wealth? How about eliminating the trillions of dollars worth of unconstitutional pork from the federal government and giving it back to the people. Our government is the problem, not "rich people".
On a personal note, I really like Hank. He's a great guy and a wonderful, gracious host. I just don't agree with his politics.
Darren
