Arla's Aimless Anecdotes

This is my attempt to write one occasional email to various people at one time. I specifically write with my cousin Judy in mind. Since we grew up together we agreed in our teens that we'd always try to keep in contact. This is a supplement to our twice yearly phone calls and our once yearly visit at our Johanson Family Memorial Day Reunion.

Where are the Peerless Dentists?

Almost two years ago my mom put her hearing aides in her pocket and then her slacks were put in the washing machine. Now her top dentures are missing. It’s been a week and still after searching everywhere in her residence they have not reappeared. They didn’t go down the toilet as it still works well but perhaps they went out in the garbage. Anyway I am waiting a few more days to make a decision about what to do. If she gets new teeth will they be secure or turn up missing again in a few weeks?

My mom is very content these days and enjoys walking around the back yard with her friend, Wanda, each morning. She always recognizes me which is very nice but she doesn’t seem to know anyone else. She likes to read books and watch television and, of course, her favorite part of the day is mealtime.

We are having perfect fall weather here with lots of sunshine. Miles spent the night on Saturday and he is very good but has no interest in getting rid of his diapers. I suggested he was a baby very much like Clay Aiken’s Parker on the front of this week’s People. Miles liked the idea, cut out the cover and now has it over his bed to remind himself as he told his mom, “that I am not a baby and need to use the potty.” His mom was not exactly pleased with Clay’s photo on the wall but she did let it stay for now.

My Obama pin is still staring at me on my desk but I purchased a McCain-Palin sign for the front of the house. I know he’s old but I’m afraid the Democrats will continue to make a mess of Congress. Now Hank will have to get home and send his views.

The note from Jasmin was so nice except for the sad message about the rhino dying. I think there is the tame young rhino that liked James and he maybe can fill in as the new mascot.

Hopefully the meerkats are entertaining you and you are having a wonderful time. I’ll be anxious to hear about the trip.
