Arla's Aimless Anecdotes

This is my attempt to write one occasional email to various people at one time. I specifically write with my cousin Judy in mind. Since we grew up together we agreed in our teens that we'd always try to keep in contact. This is a supplement to our twice yearly phone calls and our once yearly visit at our Johanson Family Memorial Day Reunion.

The New School Year

Here is Lucas ready for his first day of kindergarten. He is excited and he should be as grandma is less than excited because he is not starting at a public school. I hope the parochial school will teach him all the proper things so one day he will be able to attend his neighborhood school, and you know I will keep all my opinions to myself and let the parents raise their child as they should.

Peyton and Walker left for home this morning and I’m resting after three days with 4 boys at McDonald’s playland, pools, school playgrounds, and Chuck E. Cheese. There was no meal preparation at my house so that helped make the weekend bearable, besides the boys are getting older and can entertain themselves for longer periods of time. We’ve also learned to get them as tired as possible.

I’m wondering if Ms. Clara and Wendell will need our remodeling services again now after the latest hurricane. I’m sure you are getting ready for your trip. I will be phoning you one day soon. Barb sent a few details from their trip to Italy. It reminded me of how much we saw on our trip there 20 years ago. Did we watch the Palio de Siena or just see the parade of the riders?

Arrrgh! A parochial school?
No we did not see a race in Sienia, only a parade from one of the neighborhoods as we sat drinking a bottle of wine on the bleachers. I an ready to go back to Italy...pizza, pasta and wine...what could be better.
But I am settling right now for Meerkats and the Kalahari bush. 16 days and counting....

I heard an ugly rumor that the Democrats had screwed up Congress. Now I read that Hank's views were eagerly anticipated.

Let's start with the following article about how payoffs to Republican Congressmen and administration thieves gave the Defense Department a missle program that even DOD did not want:

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/10/12/washington/12missile.html?_r=1&th&emc=th&oref=slogin

I was unaware that anything had changed in the committee structure or rules in the Congress. I thought that most legislation could not get through Congress because the Republicans were invoking filibuster rules in the Senate.

Ive been in Africa for three weeks and maybe there's something I missed. Last I heard several Republican Congressman were in, or going to jail along with Abramoff.

Instead of silly Fox news claptrap, why not tell us in what ways the Democrats screwed up Congress. Please include the comment on the inconvenient new ethics rules and annoying investigations into waste in Iraq.

Let's try some facts--but then, that is not the Republican way.

So, "my fellow prisoners" let me know how Congress got screwed up in less than two years and caused the financial meltdown.

PS. How is Sarah Pallin going to fix Congress? Would that be a Blackhawk helicopter shooting down Congressmen??

PPS. Im guessing that the above article will not be read--there are invonvenient truths there.
