Arla's Aimless Anecdotes

This is my attempt to write one occasional email to various people at one time. I specifically write with my cousin Judy in mind. Since we grew up together we agreed in our teens that we'd always try to keep in contact. This is a supplement to our twice yearly phone calls and our once yearly visit at our Johanson Family Memorial Day Reunion.

The Taj

We got on our bus at 5:30 a.m. to get the sunrise view. It is beautiful but the hawkers and crippled kids outside the place made me a little nauseous. There are 21 on our bus and so far we are learning much about the country and seeing much poverty and garbage. I think you will be pleased with your trip to China.

Our trip to India took over 30 hours because we had stops in Hong Kong and Singapore. We stayed one night in Delhi and then arrived in Agra yesterday. The hotels we are staying in are the best. They remind me of the safari hotels in Africa. Anyway they are quite the contrast to the rest of the country.

Last night we went out to dinner and watched a dancer for the evening. The lights kept flickering as I think the generator outside was giving out. I know India is becoming a world power but I'm not sure about these little things they need to improve first.

We like the Chico folks as there is a group from Carmel as well. I hope you find a friendly bunch for your China trip. Most of these tourists with us have done the China tour also. They are carrying huge suitcases with lovely new outfits each day while I'm still working out of my small, green duffle bag. I hope I have room for my sari on the way home. Betty's load was lightened this morning when someone cut the strap of her camera. Send email or comments.
