Arla's Aimless Anecdotes

This is my attempt to write one occasional email to various people at one time. I specifically write with my cousin Judy in mind. Since we grew up together we agreed in our teens that we'd always try to keep in contact. This is a supplement to our twice yearly phone calls and our once yearly visit at our Johanson Family Memorial Day Reunion.

Back when we were somebody

Arla Judy Barb Kay Proband Hanna

You might not recognize the faces but you should remember some names. Hanna posted this on her fb so I will share as you don’t want to miss it I’m sure. It looks like our Frazier automobilie but I can be corrected.

The day has been filled with a few accomplishments, notably the light in the oven now works after a five-year recess. I feel very clever when I’m able to locate the breaker switch, use the needle nose pliers to remove the broken bulb, and finally to then install the newly purchased appliance bulb. Maybe I’ll even like baking in a lighted oven. I should mention that I actually operated a huge mixer and made dough for 30 dozen cookies last Tuesday. For the past 7 years I have simply been assembling dry ingredients and washing dishes so it was an exciting day for me. I got to stand next to Barb so we chatted the entire time until we both laughed so hard when I mentioned that I’d forgotten the brown sugar in one batch I made. Never mind, cookies will withstand almost anything and still look, smell and taste great.

Are you excited about your new mayor candidate? I guess there’s only one left as this city has a way with hiring and keeping their mayors.

I was talking to Ron more often but the last few times we talked via Skype and I think my appearance frightened him so he hasn’t called back in a month now. All those wrinkles can be scary.

Have you been following the sports activities on Sundays again? Anyone particular following them with you?

Exercise!

So how have your senior lessons been so far? Is your posture perfect and are you extremely fit? It is difficult to be fit around here as there are 54 in our Senior Fitness class and there is much talk about arthritis and proper shoes. It seems to be necessary to have special shoes to participate in special classes. I only had walking shoes, aerobic shoes and shape up shoes and recently I found there is a Zumba shoe that so far I am delaying purchasing as I’m not really doing too well in that class.

Besides these classes I’ve only been taking things out of cupboards to give to family members and/or Goodwill. Here are my 70 year old stuffed animals ready for the garbage.

I am really giving too much thought to this 70 thing. I mean it seems like I should be organizing myself into a cocoon and folding myself inside. It doesn’t help that I’m being very lazy. I am finding all the Fjeseth history papers so I can take them to my cousin, Nancy in Montana next weekend. I've seen her about as often as you've seen your Bermuda cousin so I'm anxious for a visit with her and her brother. See how beautiful it is outside with all the colored leaves.

Diana and I had a long phone conversation and Brice recently had his 90th birthday. Ron will soon be entirely on his new hip with no crutches or walker. Nancy is on her way to CA to visit and scout out a place for a visit again in February. Do you want to come visit with us?

Freedom is a new book I’ve been reading and it’s very long but interesting. I could share your gossip but there’s not enough of it to tell about.

Brett sent a Halloween video that perhaps only a parent would find amusing.
