Arla's Aimless Anecdotes

This is my attempt to write one occasional email to various people at one time. I specifically write with my cousin Judy in mind. Since we grew up together we agreed in our teens that we'd always try to keep in contact. This is a supplement to our twice yearly phone calls and our once yearly visit at our Johanson Family Memorial Day Reunion.

Peyton and Walker Are Four Years Old

Here are a few of the people who helped them celebrate. Luckily our photographer, Linda, made it so we have almost everyone in a pose. The party was unstructured and mostly adults attended. Linda brought her granddaughter, Esther. The twins were so excited and we think perhaps Christmas and birthday are a little too close together for any four year-old to withstand. Nevertheless, it will always be a five-day celebration.

Claire and I watched the twins one day while the parents worked. We totally had control and they were so good and we were so pleased with ourselves. We went for a long walk, played Candyland, Ladybug, Hiss and Feed the Kitty. Then we put puzzles together and watched Shrek. That and a nap took care of the day. Of course, when their parents walked in the door they suddenly were very needy. I don’t know why parents have such a negative effect on their children but it feels great to say, “We had no problems with them at all.”

We are waiting for the photos of your trip. It sounds like you were on a ship much of the time. I am anxious to get to CA not to see Bonnie Hunt but to see my cousins and the sunshine. Nancy reports the Palm Springs weather to be 75 degrees which certainly beats our cold rainy drizzle. Get your summer clothes packed and be ready for tennis, golf, hiking and biking.

I will not be ready for tennis, golfing, hiking or biking.
I hope you have engaged a "pool boy" to bring me my drinks. :)
High of 12 here today...75 sounds good.
I sent my photo invitation.

I like how Esther is reaching out for Bibi in the photo. Typical. I hope Esther is best behaved for us. So far, so good. She gets away with more at Bibi and Babu's so I think she will push the envelope there. At our place all meals are in the high chair but at theirs it is on Bibi's lap, eating off her plate. She seems to know the difference so I don't mind. What happens there, stays there. At least she has a great time and doesn't cry when we leave.
